A member of a group of thieves called Tantalus, Zidane is very playful and a bit of a womanizer, but only until he falls in love with Princess Garnet, does he being to change his ways. Zidane desires a real family and to learn more about his heritage as an "Angel of Death".

Garnet Til Alexandros 17th (a.k.a. Dagger)

Garnet is the heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Alexandria. At the age of six she was adopted by Queen Brahne, who acted cruel towards Garnet for years to come. Garnet is strong-willed, but a bit on the shy side. At first, Garnet does not approve of Zidane's flirtatious nature, but as the story progresses, she comes to find that she truly loves him. She is also one of the two surviving Summoners.

Vivi Orunitia
Male
Age: 9

Vivi is the only black mage that is not Queen Brahne's control. He is intelligent for his young age and believes he is unique, because he is unaware of the other existing black mages. After becoming involved with Tantalus's master plan during their performance of "I Want To Be Your Canary" he travels with Garnet, Zidane, Steiner and the others in hopes of finding his true purpose in life.

Adelbert Steiner
Male
Age: 33

Captain of the Pluto Knights, Steiner is loyal to Queen Brahne. He will do almost anything to prove himself to be better than his biggest rival, General Beatrix. After Tantalus has 'kidnaped' Garnet, Steiner chases after them to fulfill his sworn duty to protect Princess Garnet. He is very loyal, but foolish for following Queen Brahne. Steiner's biggest rival also becomes his greatest love interest.

Eiko Carol

Age: 6

Eiko is one of the surviving Summoners of Madain Sari. At the age of five, moogles in the area were willing to take care of her after the deaths of Eiko's parents and her grandfather. She became very well-educated for her young age and also became a decent thief. The party find Eiko near Madain Sari after fleeing the scene of her latest theft. She almost immediately begins to like Zidane after joining the party, and see's Garnet as her love rival.

Freya Crescent

Age: 33

Freya was once a mighty warrior and honored Red Dragon Knight. After her love interest, Sir Fratley, goes missing, Freya leaves her home town of Burmecia in search of him. After Sir Frately returns, Freya comes to find that he has lost his memory and does not remember her.

Quina Quen

Age Unknown

Quina's gender is unknown, although "it" has been referred to as "him" on a few occasions, but also "s/he". Quina has a wide-ranged appetite and eats many enemies. Quina's first appearance takes place near the beginning of the game, where we see s/he directing various cooks in the castle kitchen.

Amarant Coral

Amarant does not recall most of his past, and little is revealed during the game. After finding out that Zidane is with Vivi and Garnet, Amarant takes the job offered to him by Queen Brahne. (To get Garnets pendant and kill Vivi) After battling Zidane, Amarant decides to travel with the rest of the party.
